On Monday Room 6 discussed the importance of having a growth mindset and the Learning Pit in order to be the best learners that we can be. We attempting an extremely hard STEAM challenge in which we discovered that with the power of self belief, positive thinking and persistence we can make progress even when are faced with challenges.
Let's see if you will attempt the super hard STEAM challenge that we did...

Okeover Stream Observation
On Tuesday Room 6, 7 and 18 went on an adventure over to the Okeover Stream that runs through Canterbury University. Our focus was to make close observations of the stream. We took notes, drew diagrams and labeled all of the things we could see and hear.
After our observation we came up with some wonderings and some interesting findings.
Our thinking:
Why are there no fish?
What affect will all the rubbish in the stream have on the water and the animals?
Where does the water come from?
Where does the water go?
Is there something wrong with the water that there are no fish?
How come some plants can survive under the water?
Is it freshwater or saltwater?
Was the pink plant coral?
What would the stream look like at night?
Do the fish/eels come out at night?
I wonder if you can help answer some of our wonderings or share your thinking with us?

Kick-start Monday
Room 6 have a new Kick-Start Monday theme. Every Monday morning we rearrange our classroom programme and start the day with something a little bit different.
This week to brighten up our cold, wet morning and to shake those Monday Blues we headed off to the Science and Tech Room to complete our Elements of Art project with... a delicious hot drink on the side!
What a wonderful way to start our week.

What a wonderful way to start our week.
We explored the 7 elements to art; value, colour, line, space, shape, texture and form. |
Can you guess what these three elements represent? (or four if you include the cube...) |

Which Script
How would you begin to solve this problem?
Our reflection:
As learners we needed to demonstrate these qualities to have success in this rich task:
* strive to do our best
* make connections
* look for patterns
* focus
* never give up even when things are challenging
* determination
* ignore distractions
* be positive
* be driven to achieve
* communicate with others about the problem
* have self belief
As a class we need to focus on never giving up even when things are challenging.
