Ferrymead Heritage Park

Yesterday we wound the clock back 100 years to find out what life was like for people during this time. We discovered how different it really was! Doing the washing took sooooo long. We are so lucky that we now have washing machines that do it for us. Going to the movie theatre was different too. Everything looked so fancy and old. We even discovered an old oven. Inside it was huge, enough room for 100 loaves. Back then the children were the only ones who could fit inside the oven to clean it once it was cool... we definitely don't have to do that today. Some ovens even clean themselves. School was far different. Miss Green was VERY bossy and the room was so dull, no colour anywhere. We even took a tram ride but we had to remember... ladies first!

  1. Life in Christchurch would not be complete without the school trip to Ferrymead. Aileen enjoyed her time there and said the teacher was a bit bossy. It looks like it hasn't changed in 20 years but I suppose that's the point! Aku mihi nui kia koe. "Many thanks" to the helpers and teachers.

  4. I loved watching your video of your trip Room 13. It looks as though you had the most amazing time. Weren't things different in the olden days? I hope you didn't find the teacher too scary. This trip certainly was a great way to discover and experience some of what it was like all those years ago.

  5. What a great video Room 13. It really captures your trip. I'm pleased you had some different experiences from the one you have here at Ilam. Do you think we should get Miss Green to teach Year 2 at Ilam in 2017? ;-)
